Full Garden Mrs Henry R. Rea

Lecture excerpt for this garden

(95) Mrs. Henry R. Rea of Sewickley Heights has a green garden that is really beautiful throughout the year. (96) The long tapis vert ends with a vista with a double pergola and a huge figure of "Mercury" that overlooks the Ohio River. (97)/(97 X) Beyond the pergola is a double stairway, with steps beyond, which leads to the rock garden. (98) The huge pair of old oil jars came from ome, and to the left is a garden of boxwood planted with French begonias. (98 X) To the right is another boxwood garden, which is at its best, in lilac time. (99) The box bordered beds are filled with lavender phlox. (100) Beyond a low driveway past a quarry rock garden is the Memorial garden, built in memory of one of our earliest Garden Club members. With a background of trees and shrubs the statue made by Harriet Frismuth, called "Roses of Yesteryear", is in a quiet dell used as a bird and wild flower sanctuary. (103) The last slides from Mrs. Rea's garden give you a glimpse of a fountain (104) and some very beautiful Eighteenth Century vases beyond the terrace of her house.
