Slide 011 — Mrs Clarence Byrnes, Sewickley

Excerpt from Mrs. Hunt’s lecture

(11) This is another Sewickley garden - Mrs. Clarence Byrnes. A small city lot has been utilized in a most effective way. From the terrace, on which we are supposedly standing, one steps down three or four steps on beautiful green turf, and a tiny vista beyond. This sunken garden leads into a little woodsy spot. Yew, box, nepeta and a few perennials make an attractive planting, and a heavy hedge screens the garden from the street. The landscape architect was Mr. Cowell. The joyful statue won first prize at a Paris show, and was designed by a sculptor, H. Cronier.
